Day 5

Subject: [firstname]: Here's the secret for a great membership site

Hey [firstname]!

Today I want to let you into a secret. It's the secret really successful membership site owners know. If you don't know this secret, your membership site is doomed to failure.

What is this secret?

You MUST have a forum or some other way that members can interact with each other on your site.

There are several reasons why this is important.

First and foremost, having some sort of interaction makes members feel they are part of a community. It gives them a reason to come back.

Think about it for a moment…

Like I said the other day: Social media sites are technically membership sites. As far as I'm aware, the only content Mark Zuckerburg puts up on Facebook is the stuff on his own page, yet Facebook is one of the most popular sites on the planet. All the content is user generated.

Now, I'm NOT suggesting you start out with the intention of making your membership site the next Facebook – that ship has sailed.

However, what you CAN do is add a discussion forum to your site (there are plugins and extensions for both WordPress and Joomla that do this) to add an element of interactivity.

Another reason for doing this is it gives you the ability to find out what members are interested in – because they're going to talk about it. You can take this information and build your site around it. You can develop content you can be sure members will like because they've already said so – unprompted by you.

Pretty slick, eh?

In fact, your entire membership site could be a forum. One of the most successful membership sites on the 'net is the Warrior Forum http://warriorforum.com. It operates on a “freemium” model and is very highly regarded.
